COVID 19: Acting On an Instinct to Help
Summary
Danny Nazaruk, a long-time United Rentals leader, has been at the forefront of disaster response efforts, from 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy to the COVID-19 pandemic. While past emergencies involved deploying equipment to assist recovery efforts, the pandemic presented unique challenges that required innovative safety protocols and collaboration across teams. Nazaruk highlights the company’s commitment to employee safety, teamwork, and its culture of pride in helping communities during crises.
Challenge
Adapting to the unique and unfamiliar nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, where traditional disaster response methods—such as deploying equipment—were not sufficient to address the crisis. United Rentals had to focus on developing innovative safety protocols, ensuring employee protection, and navigating rapidly changing regulations while maintaining its commitment to helping communities during this unprecedented emergency.
Impact
During the COVID-19 pandemic, United Rentals ensured employee safety through strict protocols, such as daily temperature checks mandated by New Jersey, and facilitated the storage and distribution of thousands of masks. These actions reflect the company's ability to adapt and provide tangible support during crises while maintaining operational continuity.
