FAQs About Vertical Lift Hire
Vertical lifts, also known as personnel lifts, are compact elevating platforms that raise a single worker straight up on a small footprint. They're built for indoor maintenance, electrical, building services and stocktaking work in tight spaces where a larger scissor lift can't manoeuvre. Many models are light enough to push around by hand and narrow enough to pass through standard doorways. The right lift depends on the working height and whether you need an electric or manual model. Choose a vertical lift when you need to reach height in a tight indoor space and only one worker needs to go up. They have a much smaller footprint than scissor lifts, fit through standard doorways, and move easily through aisles and occupied buildings, making them right for maintenance, electrical and stocktaking work. Choose a scissor lift instead when you need a larger platform for more than one worker or for carrying materials up with you.
Vertical lifts don't require a high-risk work licence in Australia, as they fall below the 11-metre boom threshold that triggers the WP licence. However, most commercial sites require operators to hold a verification of competency or a recognised EWP training card before using any elevating work platform. Always check your site's induction and training requirements before operating a vertical lift, as site rules often go beyond the legal minimum.
United Rentals offers pickup from our branches or on-site delivery. Vertical lifts are compact and travel on standard tilt trays. Delivery rates depend on the distance to your site. Let us know your jobsite address when you request a quote and we'll include transport in the price.
